The first Village Tavern was established in 1984, near Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem.

The concept has achieved high standards in the upscale casual dining segment and has proven to be successful as evidenced by the excellent operating and financial performance of each Village Tavern restaurant. The success has replicated itself in a variety of restaurant sizes and locations, reinforcing the scalability and transferability of the concept to the marketplace.

The Village Tavern concept, an idea that has evolved over the company's twenty-two year history, has three simple missions:

To be the new standard of excellence for our guests by providing great food, great service, great value, everyday, in a sparkling clean, comfortable restaurant.

To be the new standard of excellence for our people by being a great place to work; providing a safe, comfortable, motivating environment.

To be the new standard of excellence for our share holders by being a great investment.

We are proud to continue that tradition.

Fueled by their mutual passion for fish, veteran restaurateurs Tim Curci and Chris Parker set out to create a new kind of dining experience. They wanted to build a place that would take the mystery out of fish for people who didn't eat it very often. They would help their guests understand where the fish they were eating came from, how to have it cooked, and best of all – how to have fun with the wide range of delicious flavors and sauces they would develop to perfectly complement a wide range of species.

They wanted the place to feel warm, comfortable and inviting inside, but below the surface would lie a dogged commitment to quality and excellence on every level. They would come to call this ambiance "polished casual".

They wanted to provide their guests with the freshest fish possible, so in their search to find fish from the waters worldwide, they hunted down and located fish purveyors with the same commitment to quality as theirs. Using extraordinary thought and care, Chris and Tim designed a ritual where they would receive, inspect, and hand cut the fish daily.

On January 15, 2000 in St. Petersburg, Florida, the first Bonefish Grill was born. People turned out in droves! The success of their vision has generated restaurant growth that has taken them throughout the Southeast and Northeastern coasts, and today Bonefish Grill has begun expanding throughout the Midwest.

Do you recall when restaurants had ambience and a personality all their own without clutter and noise?? Visiting Nonnas Italian Ristorante will reassure you that attention to detail, quality food, and atmosphere have not been forgotten. One of Evan's biggest complaints about dining out is there just don't seem to be many places in the area that offer some good basic food in a nice, but casual, setting. But it appears that Café Ciao, the casual offshoot of Mountain Brook's Ciao Italian restaurant, is certainly doing its part to make this complaint less frequent.

Tucked behind Joe Muggs at the corner of Cahaba Road and Fairway Drive in English Village, near Arman's in Mountain Book, we stopped by after working into the early evening on a cold and wet Tuesday around 7 p.m. We were immediately seated just across the bar at a table for two. The place was no more than half full, with jazz playing over the sound system. Within a few minutes we were greeted by our waiter, who took our drink order.

Café Ciao offers a nice selection of about a dozen beers on tap, with names such as Guinness Stout, McEwans, Bass, Fosters and Heineken, just to name a few, including hard-to-find Woodpecker cider. We were disappointed to see they no longer offered the German Tucher wheat beer on tap, which we had enjoyed on previous visits. They also offer some 14 different wines, all by the glass or the bottle with names that are better than the typical mass market wines you see at many other casual restaurants. Best of all they offer wines in several other varieties besides the usual Chardonnay or Merlot.

In 1934, The All Steak Restaurant was actually founded in Pulaski, Tennessee by Millard Buchman. The original name was to have been "All Steak Hamburgers", but when the sign was made, Millard did not have the money to add the word "Hamburgers" to it. In 1938, Millard moved The All Steak Cafe from Pulaski to Cullman, to a small part of the building where Bennett's Home Supply is now located. Here, Joe Shelton and Al Gasser joined him in the business. In 1939, they bought Werner's Cafe from Mrs. Gus Werner and moved The All Steak across the alley. Soon, Al and Millard sold their interest in the restaurant to Joe Shelton who operated The All Steak until 1946 when he sold it to Lucille and Ewing Wallace. In 1962, the building was damaged by fire, but was rebuilt in the same location by Mr. and Mrs. Wallace in 1963. In 1977, Charles and Paula Dobson bought The All Steak from Lucille Wallace. In 2006, Matt and Kim Heim bought The All Steak from the Dobson's. Throughout these changes, the sign, the service and the food have remained the same. People come from miles around for our consistent level of quality and our signature orange rolls. Two examples of these are a customer from Michigan requesting our orange roll recipe through the R.S.V.P. column of Bon Appetite and a recent rave review by the Birmingham News of our selection, service, and quality. The restaurant remains the cornerstone of the community and is still the scene of daily debates.

Bottega and Bottega Café opened (in 1988 and 1990 respectively) to wonderful reviews. Located in the historic Bottega Favorita building on Highland Avenue , this is the second of three in Frank and Pardis Stitt’s family of restaurants. As the name implies, Bottega is indeed a little workshop, the implements being the essences, traditions and ingredients of Italy , north Africa and the Mediterranean .

Bottega Restaurant is 2001 James Beard Award recipient Frank Stitt’s "little workshop" for some of the finer elements of rustic Mediterranean and Italian cooking. At the café, the famous 3-cheese mac and cheese; in the restaurant, the legendary parmesan soufflé. And that’s just the beginning. Fresh seafood, meat and game are all cooked with the soul-satisfying essences of Tuscany , Andalusia and Sicily . Beautiful Portifino fabric accents the walnut-paneled walls in the two-level dining room while the courtyard adds the finishing touch on the truly European setting. The second level mezzanine is perfect for private parties or business dinners.
